friendly homes kindergarten

Its Monday once again and it’s the time of the week where you have to adjust in waking up early again because you have to attend to your child’s need to go school. I’m actually sitting here on my son’s school while writing this. His school is walking distance from our house. Friendly homes kindergarten is a small school that caters only nursery and kindergarten students. There’s only two classes, one for the kindergarten which is from 8-10 and followed by the nursery from 10-12. A class would be composed of 15 students or less. It’s a small school but had been around for almost 20 years now. Although it’s not famous and well marketed like other pre-schools here in Baguio, I could honestly say that the quality of education is very high at a very reasonable price. Plus the location is very safe and convenient for residents in the Guisad area. The school is located inside the BPI compound so you don’t have to worry about incidents of hit and run because it’s not even located near a highway. You have to walk all the way in BPI. I was even surprised that there is a kindergarten inside the BPI compound, mainly because the school itself is actually a residence of the owners. The garage was converted to a store and only one big classroom and waiting area for parents. Nevertheless even though the school have humble beginnings, the students are just amazing. Imagine they could already read right after kindergarten. I was surprised that it’s not yet the end of June but the nursery students already know the alphabet by heart. It just goes to show how dedicated they are on the excellence of teaching, maybe because mostly both Mr. and Mrs. De Guzman are educators al their life and are very passionate about their profession. In fact they are both already retired and now focus on teaching these little rascals.

We were lucky enough that our son was accepted in this school. He is only 2 and half years old, the youngest among the class. At first, they were hesitant to take him in but after much persuading they finally agreed to let him in with a disclaimer that considering his age he might not be able to learn a lot. I know that he is really too young to go to school but I believe that it’s much better for him to spend two hours of his time in a productive and learning environment rather than being alone in the home and just sulking away as he have no one to play with because he is the only child. He used to go to this toddler school where he would just play but unfortunately we spend more than what is expected due to a cab fare and since it’s located inside the mall there are this occasional moments that you can’t resist buying food in McDonalds or Jollibee or other fast food. Okay I admit it’s every time he goes in. that’s why we end up spending almost 300 a day when he goes to toddler school plus his other playmates are the snobby English speaking brats. Well not all, but most of them are. I did not want my son to be like those other kids though. Thankfully his classmates right now are not even close to his previous classmates which make me happy. My son still does not know the alphabet by heart and he still does not have the concentration needed for him to be able to finish nursery and he might be the “saling-pusa” in the class but even so, I know that he is learning. I’m not ashamed to admit that he might be repeating his nursery but when that happens he will be more than prepared because he developed his sense of education already. And im proud to say that my son is not the type that would cry and will have temper tantrums on school instead he participates very actively when his name is called. He just has a problem of attention span which I think is a problem of 2-year old kids.
